Thompson earns

Wyoming school honor

Samantha Thompson of Sequim was named to the University of Wyoming's vice president's honor roll for fall semester.

To qualify for the honor roll at the University of Wyoming, undergraduate students must complete 6-12 hours of graded credit hours with a grade-point average of 3.50 or better.



Band boosters to meet

The Sequim High Band Boosters are having their next meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 in the school district boardroom in the Performing Arts Building, 533 N. Sequim Ave.

Meeting topics include finalizing plans for the Heritage Festival trip to Anaheim, Calif., in March, as well upcoming events such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and band adjudication.

Parents of band students are encouraged to attend. Also scheduled is a Heritage Festival chaperone meeting that follows the regular meeting.

School fundraiser: a barn dance

The 2009 Five Acre School fundraiser, the "Beat the Blues Barn Dance," is scheduled for 6-11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Cedarfield Barn on Kitchen-Dick Road.

Music artists include Deadwood Revival and the Black Diamond Fiddlers Club.

The event includes live and silent auctions and a raffle.

No-host vendors include: Alder Wood Bistro, Bella Italia and Blue Flame BBQ. A selection of local beer and wine is available.

Tickets are: $18 for adults; $9 for youths of ages 5-15; and free for youths 5 years old or younger.

Proceeds go to the Five Acre School scholarships and equipment fund.

Exchange group seeks

volunteer advocate

Representatives from World Heritage, a nonprofit student exchange program, are seeking a volunteer from the community to serve as a representative and program supporter for high school exchange students.

Volunteers screen potential host families, meet with local high school representatives and provide support counseling for host families and students.
