Sequim City Clerk Karen Kuznek-Reese will be president of the Washington Municipal Clerks Association in 2010 after being elected to its board of directors in March 2008.

The preliminary announcement was made at the Feb. 23 city council meeting. The formal announcement won't be until March 19 at the Washington Municipal Clerks Association's annual banquet, held this year in Ocean Shores.

Kuznek-Reese grew up in Port Orchard and lived in the Seattle area prior to moving to Sequim.

She started with the city as an administrative clerk in May 1998. Then she moved to the city manager department in 2000 and was appointed city clerk in December 2001.

Her previous experience included working as an executive assistant at the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe and as a legal secretary at two law firms: Platt, Irwin, Taylor, Colley and Oliver in Port Angeles and Millet and Mauhar in Sequim.

Kuznek-Reese has been a certified municipal clerk since 2004. She will receive her master municipal clerk designation this year.

The city clerk's office is responsible for documenting and retaining the official records of all city council meetings and maintains the calendars for upcoming meetings.

Other responsibilities include drafting and maintaining resolutions and ordinances, maintaining official city records, responding to public records requests, receiving donations and arranging special events.
