Members of the Clallam County Democratic Central Committee will consider joining the Jefferson County Democrats in their resolution opposing the expansion and continuation of certain activities by the U.S. Border Patrol on the north Olympic Peninsula.

The Central Committee meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the Raymond Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Jefferson County's Democratic Central Committee several weeks ago adopted a resolution calling for the federal government to suspend any expansion of Border Patrol activity on the Olympic Peninsula.

The resolution is in response to controversial Border Patrol

activities in recent months such as stopping and searching passengers on buses and the detention of individuals in Sequim.

The proposed resolution calls for local law enforcement agencies to uphold their oaths to protect the rights and liberties of local people and it calls on elected officials to reform government approaches to border interdiction efforts to assure that such activities are performed consistent with civil rights.

The Border Patrol issue will be considered early on Saturday's agenda with the PCO training beginning as close to 4 p.m. as possible.
