"Charlie Power," an oil painting by Sequim artist and Blue Whole Gallery member Priscilla Messner-Patterson, has been accepted into the U.S. Coast Guard's 2009 art collection.
The Coast Guard Art Program was established to tell the story of Coast Guard missions through art. Messner-Patterson has 13 other paintings in the permanent collection.
"Charlie Power" depicts a May 2007 rescue mission from Brothers Mountain in the Brothers Wilderness Area southwest of Quilcene by a helicopter crew from USCG Group Port Angeles. It was the highest altitude recorded rescue made by the HH65 helicopter.
The term "Charlie" stands for C, the helicopter model that had been assigned to Group Port Angeles just weeks prior to the rescue.
