Community Photo to close downtown

If you plan to be in the Sequim Community Photo to be taken April 11, you might want to practice your penmanship as well as double-checking your outfit.
This year's poster will have the names printed on the back of everyone who signs in, said Jean Wyatt, Irrigation Festival marketing coordinator.
"If you are in the photo and you sign in and we can read it, we'll take all those names and print them on the back of the poster," she said.
"It's an added incentive to be in the photo."
The Sequim Community Photo gathering will begin at
2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, on the sidewalks near the intersection of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue.
The event will end by
4 p.m.
Wyatt said sometime close to 3 p.m., the city will barricade the streets and have everyone move to the middle of the intersection.
The photo will be taken at
3 p.m. Then people will disperse and the police will open the streets again, she said.
Washington Street will be closed between Second and Sunnyside avenues. Sequim Avenue will be closed between Spruce and Maple streets. Bell and Cedar streets also will be blocked off.
The photo will be taken from the west side of Washington Street with people facing west.
"There's room for lots of people. The 2000 poster shows lots of room on Washington Street. We want to accommodate as many people as possible," Wyatt said.
Although signs won't be allowed, Wyatt said groups are encouraged to identify themselves in other ways such as all dressing in one color.
The photo is made into limited-edition posters and sold as an Irrigation Festival fundraiser for $15 each, Wyatt said.
The posters will be pre-sold on April 11 along with Irrigation Festival products, she said.
"People also can order more later at the visitor center. That will govern how many posters we make. So we want
to encourage people to get their orders in," Wyatt said.
A Sequim Community Photo was taken in April 2000 by Dave Martin Photography in Olympia after completion of the Sequim bypass project.
Wyatt said some prints of that photo are available.
