Makah artist featured at longhouse gallery

A reception honoring Makah tribal artist Kenny Jimmicum will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at the Peninsula College Longhouse, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
Community residents are invited to come and meet the artist and hear him talk about his work.
Jimmicum comes from the Qwiqwidicciat, "people who live by the rocks and seagulls."
He creates traditional art in the traditional manner, including fishing gear. His work has a simple, ancient look and this is intentional as he honors his history in his methods. He believes it is not how fancy or flashy something is that makes a gift, but the prayers and feelings that go into it.
Some of the items that will be on display include an oil lamp and a cedar bark rope.
Jimmicum's work will be on display through April.
