Sequim man crashes plane in Port Townsend

John M. Cook, 78, of Sequim, remains in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after crashing his airplane April 9 at the Jefferson County International Airport.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports that Cook's 2007 Remos model G-3 airplane apparently missed the runway and crashed in a grass strip while he was attempting to land.
However, Keppie Keplin-ger, East Jefferson Fire-
Rescue spokeswoman, said eyewitnesses saw that Cook was attempting to take off.
Cook, the sole occupant of the two-seat airplane, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported by Airlift Northwest to Harborview.
His condition was listed as satisfactory April 14, upgraded from serious earlier this week, a Harborview representative said, and he had been transferred out of the hospital's intensive care unit.
The airplane was destroy-ed in the incident that the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.
