Autism event update

"Buddy's Benefit - Aces for Awareness" volleyball tournament and the "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" benefit walk for autism awareness have been postponed one week, from Saturday April 25 to Saturday May 2.

Information about the events is on Page C-9 of today's Sequim Gazette. Everything is the same except for the date.

The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe lost an honored elder, Ms. Beatrice Charles, the Klallam language teacher for the tribe, and her service is on Saturday. Out of respect for the family, the event has been rescheduled.



Disaster team volunteers meet

Volunteers of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team meet at the Clallam County Emergency Operations Center at the Clallam County Courthouse at 6 p.m. April 22.

Volunteers will get a briefing from Jayme Wisecup about the resources of the county EOC and how the volunteers will relate to the county disaster operation during an actual disaster incident.

Trained volunteers of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team are located in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay/Seiku. A team is being formed in Neah Bay.

The volunteers are trained to respond to fires and natural disasters in each community. Call 457-7933.



Preschool openings

Sequim Pre-Three preschool has openings for this spring quarter. The preschool meets from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Fridays at Trinity United Methodist Church on Blake Avenue in Sequim.

Sequim Pre-Three is a place for parents, grandparents and caregivers (with children ages 10 months to 31/2 years) to come weekly with their children for a wide variety of activities including music, art, social interaction, dramatic and outdoor play. Parents take turns working in the classroom with the children's teacher and participating in a discussion led by an experienced parent educator while earning college credit. SNAP seeks volunteers

Special Needs Advocacy Parents, a not-for-profit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, needs talented volunteers who would like to donate five-10 hours a month.

SNAP is looking for individuals who have unmet creative talents in the area of the arts, financial record keeping or culinary skills who would like to develop relationships with disabled individuals.

Inquiries are welcomed from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Great lawns await

Free "Have a Great Lawn & Use Less

Water" workshops are planned to help county residents conserve water.

The first is 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 22, in the county commissioners' meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, and the second is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Pioneer Memorial Park clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim, (across from The Co-op Farm and Garden).

The free class includes great information, useful handouts, coffee, snacks and a rain gauge.
