Many thanks to all who attended the Veteran's Rally for the Lloyd

Strand Veterans Relief Fund. There was sunshine, clowns, music by Haywire, hot dogs, tap dancers, auctions, the Classic Car Club, the Humane Society, Amanda Bacon, etc.

More than $6,000 was raised for the fund which helps veterans and their families in emergency situations. To date more than $7,000 has been distributed. This fund is administered by the Sequim VFW. Get in touch with them to apply for assistance.

On Wednesday, June 3, Senior Vice Commander Bob Woeck of VFW Post 4760 presented $750 scholarships to Sequim High School seniors Kari Hankins, Samantha Henderson and Robbie Blenk. Congratulations!

I was the guest of honor for the NJROTC Military Ball which was held at the Vern Burton Center on June 6. What a pleasure to spend the evening with the cadets and their dates. Earlier, at the awards ceremony, I had presented, for the second time, the CDR Lorri Gilchrist medal for Community Service to Cadet Jennifer Dille.

President Jim McEntire, on behalf of The Military Officers Association of America, presented medals to Cadets Elijah Hauff and Heaven Paulsen. MOAA also gave $300 for cadets to attend the Leadership Academy at Naval Air Station Whidbey.

Regent Kay Garrison presented the Daughters of the American Revolution medal for Michael Trebert Chapter to Cadet Hallie Johnson.

The Forks Stand Down went well. Thank you Ethel and Rick who contributed items. Fifty people were helped in the clothing room, 12 got haircuts, WorkSource saw 12, six received dental screenings, 15 got health screenings, and many other agencies provided information and assistance.

The Port Townsend Stand Down will be Monday, July 27. If you have donations of camping gear, personal hygiene items, portable, non-perishable food or coats call me at 683-6419. I will be gone from June 24-July 13.

The Washington State Veteran's Home at Retsil is in need of 21-inch push lawn mowers, a zero-radius riding mower, and weed eaters. Call 683-6419 if you can donate these items or contribute money to purchase them or the gas to run them.
