A 52-year-old man from out of state suffered fractured ribs when thrown from his horse Monday afternoon while riding a trail along 1200 DNR Road, off the west end of Olson Road near Lost Mountain Road.
He was carried out about a quarter mile on a stretcher by eight people from Clallam County Fire District and Olympic Ambulance.
The rescue was delayed because law enforcement had to unlock the gate onto Olson Road.
Fire District 3 Lt. Chad Cate said the man was riding with his wife, son and a friend when he was bucked off his horse about 4 p.m. Monday.
Rescuers reached the ambulance about 5:40 p.m. Monday and the man was found to have fractured ribs but no internal injuries, Cate said.
