The Sequim Open Aire Market welcomes August and you from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 1, on Cedar Street in downtown Sequim.

Summertime means lots of great produce, and Open Aire Market vendors provide summer squash, onions, beets, greens of all kinds, cukes, berries, cut flowers and more at booths throughout the market.

Mike Shethar, culinary intern at Nash's Organic Produce, will present "The Seasonal Kitchen - Tips for Year-Round Local Eating" at the market Aug. 1 and Aug. 8.

Preparing produce on the spot

Located next to Nash's booth in market square, Shethar will prepare and present the day's produce throughout the day, beginning at 10 a.m. He will share recipe ideas and preparation tips for all the produce that can be found throughout the market each week.

In the Suzanne Arnold community booths, representatives from Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County and the Port Angeles Friends of Animals will answer questions and provide program information.

The Port Angeles High School string quartet will play from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Drop by and listen to these talented youthful musicians, some of whom have played Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Youth vendors have provided a great fresh face this

season.

Fresh biscuits for Bowser

Emma's All-Natural Dog Biscuits has become an Open Aire Market mainstay - look for the light gray tent when you're walking your four-legged friend. Olivia's Designs (co-located with The Shepherd's Fold) and Designs by Azreal (co-located with Out on a Whim) offer hand-made jewelry, while Minty Little (co-located with Pacific Northwest Naturals) is an artist with plants, shells, fine art prints and cards.

Market patrons now can purchase all they need for complete meals - cheese, eggs, fish, shellfish, baked goods, locally-processed jams and syrups, produce and flowers - with one visit.

See www.sequimmarket.com for more information.

Mark Ozias is the director of the Sequim Open Aire Market.
