Building off momentum from last year, 50 Sequim Senior Activity Center volunteers prepped the largest Benefit Sale to date. The sale was Aug. 6 and 7.

Michael Smith said the preliminary total for the sale is $20,500 after expenses.

Last year, they made $12,000 and the two previous years $8,000 each.

Proceeds go toward the center's operating expenses with 10 percent benefiting a Sequim High School senior boy and girl.

A large amount of items were sold prior to opening the public.

Smith said a presale for members of the center made $4,500 in one day and $2,500 on another, whereas during its two-day public sale on Thursday and Friday, August 6 and 7, it made more than $12,000.

Volunteers' goal was $20,000 and Smith was happy the center met their goal.

"Our scholarships will be bigger next year for sure," Smith said.

Donations are accepted all year for bigger items like furniture, but smaller items are not accepted until spring 2010.
