Support health care

for children

The fifth-annual Cheers for Children's fundraiser is from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Naval Elks ballroom, 131 E. First St., Port Angeles.

It includes wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, a no-host bar, silent and live auctions and a raffle basket drawing. Entertainment is by Double Exposure. Tickets are $25 per person.

It is sponsored by the Evergreen Guild of Children's Hospital.

To purchase tickets, make a donation or for more information, call 457-6952 or 457-9519. Tickets will be available at the door. All proceeds go to Children's Hospital.



Watts to teach at

Ansel Adams Institute

Sequim resident Charlotte Watts has been invited to teach at the fall workshop at the Ansel Adams Institute of Photography in California. Watts has taught at the institute previously and her photographic work is in its gallery and many others.

The Ordover Gallery at the San Diego Natural History Museum selected her "Barn in Dust Storm" from more than 2,000 entries for its recent exhibit.

Redshaw at

Renaissance

The documentary "Visions of Light" will screen starting at 7 p.m.Thursday, Sept. 24, at Renaissance, 401 E. Front St., Port Angeles.

Film critic Rebecca Redshaw will introduce the movie that features dozens of film clips and interviews with famous cinematographers and will lead a discussion following the movie. Renaissance refreshments will be available for purchase during the event.

A copy of "Rebecca Redshaw's SOFA CINEMA: An Easy Guide to DVDs Vol. 1" will be raffled and additional autographed copies will be available for purchase.

Reading features

two new books

Port Angeles writer Tess Gallagher will share stories from her latest book with Peninsula College students, staff and area residents on Thursday, Oct. 8, when she reads selections from two new books.

Gallagher will introduce her own just-published collection of short stories "The Man from Kinvara: Selected Stories" and the American Library Edition of her late husband Raymond Carver's collected stories, "Beginners," which includes many newly restored to his original manuscripts.

The free reading begins at 12:35 p.m. in the college's Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. Gallagher's appearance is co-sponsored by the college's Studium Generale and Foothills Writers Series.
