Celebrate America's Best Idea and National Public Lands Day on Sat., Sept. 26, with Olympic National Park. Park entry fees will be waived that day although camping and dump station fees will remain in effect.

There will be ranger guided programs at Hurricane Ridge, the Hoh Rain Forest, Mora and Kalaloch Ranger Stations as well as the Olympic National Park Visitors Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road, Port Angeles.

"This Is America," the 45-minute preview to Ken Burns' six-part 12-hour series "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," will be shown at the visitor's center in Port Angeles at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Volunteers will clean Pacific beaches from Cape Alava to Sand Point. Check in at the Ozette Ranger Station from noon-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, or 8-10 a.m. Sat., Sept. 26.

Volunteers should bring

all-weather gear including gloves, clippers, and sturdy shoes. Volunteers who wish to camp on the beach will need overnight wilderness use permits, which must be reserved in advance by calling 360-565-3100. Wilderness use permits and Ozette Campground fees will be waived for volunteers.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, the Olympic Park Institute and Olympic National Park will host a premiere of the first episode of "The National Parks: America's Best Idea" at 7:30 p.m. in the Peninsula Room of the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

Olympic National Park Superintendent Karen Gustin will make opening remarks. There will be door prizes including posters signed by Ken Burns and series producer Dayton Duncan, gift certificates for ONI instructor-led outings and a copy of the companion book for the series by Dayton Duncan.
