Friday, Oct. 16, is United Way of Clallam County's 20th annual Restaurant Day and Business Blitz. Restaurants in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay will donate a portion of their proceeds to United Way.

"During your breakfast, lunch or dinner on Friday, you can help your community by eating at your favorite restaurant or stopping in for coffee or dessert. Don't forget to thank the restaurant for their support of the many agencies that will receive United Way funding," says Pam Marshall, United Way campaign co-chairwoman.

Also on Friday, volunteers will be calling on local businesses in Port Angeles and Sequim to request a donation to United Way.

Jack Marshall, campaign co-chairman, says, "Each year restaurants and small businesses all over Clallam County make generous contributions in support of United Way. These businesses are very important to the health of our community."

Last year 80 businesses and restaurants across the county contributed more than $13,000.

United Way hopes to raise $1,100,000 this fall. Funds will be distributed in 2010 to 27 partner agencies, United Way Community Solutions and other nonprofit organizations as requested by donors.

"We are hearing from more and more community members in need this year, and every donation helps, no matter the size," said Sharon DelaBarre, Sequim campaign chairwoman. Sequim raised $233,000 last year and has reported $45,832 to date.
