North Olympic Library System's board of trustees will hold a second public meeting before adopting its 2010 operating budget. The meeting is at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
The district faces a $176,000 shortfall due primarily to the cumulative effect of the 1-percent maximum annual allowable increase in the NOLS property tax levy and the average 2.8-percent inflation for the past eight years.
Cutbacks under discussion include service reductions, unpaid employee furloughs, temporary benefits rollbacks and layoffs. The board is considering asking for a levy increase in 2010.
The public is encouraged to comment at the meeting or to call NOLS director Paula Barnes at 417-8525, e-mail LibraryBoard@nols.org, or go to the Web site www.nols.org and click on Board and Administration.
