Nomination petitions for the March 2 Clallam Conservation District election, including the required 25 signatures, must be verified by the conservation district or county auditor by Feb. 2.
Election of the district's board of supervisors will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.
Polling places will be the Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave., and the Port of Port Angeles headquarters, 338 W. First St., Port Angeles.
The volunteer board is comprised of three people elected to three-year terms and two people appointed to three-year terms by the Washington State Conservation Commission.
County residents who are registered voters are eligible to run for district supervisor.
However, two of the board's three elected members and one of its two appointed members also must be either property owners or farm operators.
Clallam Conservation District manager Joe Holtrop said the seat on this year's ballot, Joe Murray's three-year term, requires either owning property or operating a farm.
One of the two appointed positions, now held by Nash Huber, also is open this year and doesn't require land ownership or farm operation Both of the appointees are owners/operators so replacing Huber doesn't require an owner/operator, he said.
Candidates seeking Huber's appointed position must apply by March 31 to the Clallam Conservation District or the Washington State Conservation Commission.
Write-in candidates must meet eligibility requirements four weeks before the election.
The Clallam Conservation District board of supervisors employs five people and oversees a $2 million annual budget. The supervisors identify conservation needs, set goals and oversee implementation of plans to protect soil, water, wildlife and other renewable natural resources.
The board meets at 3 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the Clallam Conservation District office.
