New Scout executive
Chief Seattle Boy Scouts Council hired Derek Ballinger as the new district executive for the Mount Olympus District, which covers the northern stretch of the Olympic Peninsula from Brinnon to LaPush.
Originally from the Tri-Cities and an Eagle Scout, Ballinger graduated from Gonzaga University in environmental engineering.
He taught for two years as a volunteer in the Marshall Islands, earned a master's degree in teaching from Seattle University and taught math at secondary schools in Omak before coming to Port Angeles.
His employment coincides with the start of the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts in 2010.

Realtor Kimi Robertson of JACE The Real Estate Company, 933 E. First St., Port Angeles, earned the short sales and foreclosure resource certification to go with her Graduate of Realtor Institute certification.
Robertson learned how to help sellers maneuver the complexities of short sales and help buyers pursue short sale and foreclosure opportunities.
This is the second advanced course on the subject she has completed in the past year.
A native of the Olympic Peninsula, Robertson earned a degree at Peninsula College.
Dockside Grill at John Wayne Marina, 2577 West Sequim Bay Road, will be closed all day on Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 7.
