One or more vandals tore through Cameron Berry Farm, at the corner of Wheeler and Woodcock roads, around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 10.

Neighbors awoke to the noise and headlights from an unidentified 4X4 tearing through three acres of strawberries and one-two acres of hay.

Dave Cameron, the farm’s owner, said the damage totals more than a few thousand dollars. 

After speaking with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, he believes the vandals could be the same as those who tore up the lawn at Sequim Prairie Grange in late February. 

“Farmers have enough problems already,” Cameron said. 

“One more incident like this, and we’re out of the field. It’d be so much damage we couldn’t recover it.”

This isn’t the first time his business has been struck, he said.

Trucks tore through his property about 10 years ago, forcing him to dig a ditch and put in an embankment to keep vehicles out.

Installing a fence isn’t likely because Cameron rents the property and at $3,000-$4,000, a fence would cost too much.

Cameron said cars might have accompanied the 4X4 because neighbors saw a car leaving the field later in the morning, but the license plate couldn’t be read.

“Hopefully we can get some awareness out there because so many times, little to nothing is done about this kind of stuff,” Cameron said.

He plans to work with Crime Stoppers and to offer a $1,000 reward.
