The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula kicks off its Campaign for Kids Saturday, April 10.

From 11 a.m.-3 p.m. the Sequim club, 400 W. Fir St., hosts its first Spring Fling open house with tours, activities and curriculum demonstrations.

“We want the public to see how we do this because it’s more than just a place for kids to play basketball — it’s a lot more,” said volunteer Stephen Rosales.

Now through Aug. 31, volunteers and staff will send letters, make phone calls and go door-to-door asking for assistance.

From April 10-Aug. 31, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula looks to raise $70,000 for children’s services in the Sequim and Port Angeles clubs. Kim and Stephen Rosales, pictured top center, with Sequim unit director Mary Budke between them, donated the first $500 toward the campaign.  Sequim Gazette photo by Matthew Nash

The annual fundraiser for about 800 Sequim and Port Angeles children supports:

■ The arts
■ Health and life skills
■ Sports, fitness and recreation
■ Education and career development
■ Character and leadership development

The clubs’ 2010 goal is $70,000. Last year they raised $63,692 out of a goal of $95,000.
