Montesano Democrat to run for Kessler's legislative seat

Jack Dwyer, a Montesano chiropractor, announced Tuesday, April 27, that he will run for the open House seat held by Rep. Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam.
Kessler is retiring after 18 years in the Legislature.
"Lynn represented our rural communities well," said Dwyer. "I will continue that strong representation and be a voice for the residents of the Olympic Peninsula and Harbor areas."
Civic service
Dwyer, owner and operator of Nature's Way Chiropractic in Montesano, is a Montesano school board director. He serves on the executive board for the Advocates for the Rights of Citizens (ARC) with Developmental Disabilities and supports the Hope From Horses Program.
He is the Washington state representative to the International Chiropractors Association and president of the Grays Harbor Chiropractic Association. When he was studying for his doctorate in chiropractic, he was vice president of the Student International Chiropractic Association.
He also held positions on the board for The Leukemia Society, the N.J. Governor's Task Force on Teen Suicide and a county Environmental Protection Agency board.
He has participated in Habitat for Humanity and sponsors girls Little League softball. He teaches anatomy and physiology to massage students in Olympia.
Focus on jobs
Dwyer and his wife, Michele, live in Montesano and have three grown children.
"I believe in community service - that's why I'm running," said Dwyer, who will run as a Democrat.
"My focus in the Legislature will be on jobs and our rural economy, education and protecting the most vulnerable members of our community, including our senior, low-income and disabled neighbors.
"I run a small business that is focused on serving people. My practice and my community involvement are all about making life better for people," Dwyer said.
"I want to take that same passion and focus to the state capitol."
Dwyer said he plans to campaign across the entire Olympic Peninsula.
"I enjoy meeting people and talking about community-building ideas. We have a beautiful area with lots of unique people and communities.
"I am looking forward to getting around the district to have conversations with the voters in the 24th District. One of my strengths is the ability to listen to people and hear their concerns."
