For Sequim High senior Zoei Zbaraschuk, her prep career ended with her best finish ever.

For sophomore Ryan O’Mera, the journey has just begun.

After a share of second place after one round of play, Zbaraschuk finished fifth at the class 2A state golf tournament at Yakima’s Apple Tree Golf Course, firing a second round of 80 for a 154, nine shots back of champion Alexis Keating of Elma.

Zbaraschuk’s previous best was seventh place in 2008 as a sophomore. She was ninth last year.

Zbaraschuk plans to play for Sonoma State University in California next fall.

O’Mera, who qualified for the state tourney last year as a freshman but barely missed the first day cut, posted a second round 81 to finish with a 157, good for 28th overall.

On the girls’ side, junior Kim Duce made the second round cut and finished 34th overall with a two-round score of 197, helping the Wolves place sixth as a team. Teammate Hailey Estes, a sophomore, shot a first-round 100 on Tuesday and placed 45th overall, two shots off the first day cut.

On the boys’ side, Sequim’s Steve Loerlein and Mallory Maloney missed first-day cuts. Loerlein, a senior, shot an 86 in Tuesday’s first round to place 62nd out of 80 state 2A golfers. Maloney, a junior, shot a 93, placing 72nd overall.
