OlyCAP's Senior Nutrition Program puts fresh fruits and vegetables on the table for area seniors and helps local farmers find an outlet for their produce. Seniors 60 years and older who have a monthly income of less than $1,669 - or $2,246 for a two-person household - are eligible for $40 in vouchers per household that can be used at farmers markets in Sequim, Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Chimacum.

"The vouchers come in booklets of 20 checks of $2 each" said Kathy Crowley, OlyCAP's Senior Nutrition Program manager. "They are really easy to use and they put fresh local produce within reach of many more seniors."

This year OlyCAP received a little over $18,000 in vouchers for distribution - enough for about 450 households. They are distributed on a first come, first served basis and are good from June 1-Oct. 31.

"The program helps our seniors purchase healthy produce and supports our local farmers. It's a real win for everyone," said Crowley.

The application process consists of an affidavit of eligibility. The affidavits/applications are available at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, all area community centers and OlyCAP offices. Completed affidavits need to be returned to OlyCAP's Port Angeles office, 228 W. First St., Suite J. Call 452 -4726.
