This is where the beef is

This summer, the Sequim Lavender Company celebrates 10 years in the lavender growing business in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.

Company owners Mary and Paul Jendrucko, inspired by the popularity and diversity of lavender that originated in the stately gardens of Great Britain and on the rugged Mediterranean hillsides of France and Spain, have added another British product to their wares.

The Jendruckos have expanded their lavender farm activities and become herdsmen to a small herd of Belted Galloway beef cattle.

Originally bred in the harsh and sparsely vegetated regions of Scotland and other parts of the British Isles, the Belted Galloway is a medium-sized breed that garners high marks in taste and marbling, and exhibits high levels of beneficial omega fats.

"Our goal is to foster and bring to market a wholesome brand of pasture-fed beef," Paul Jendrucko said. "This breed of cattle is a perfect fit for our lavender farm operation. What could be a better combination - lavender with a British origin and highly prized beef with a British origin? It's all healthy, natural and local."

The couple plan to be at the Sequim Lavender Festival Street Fair, held July 16-18, to answer inquiries about the Belted Galloway.
