Tamara Allen shares strategies to prevent and suppress garden pests, with minimum impact on human health and the environment, at noon Tuesday, July 27, in the Emergency Operations Center of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Part Angeles.

"Theory and Practice of Integrated Pest Management in the Pacific Northwest," is part of a series of "Green Thumb Gardening Tips," brown bag educational programs sponsored by the Clallam County WSU Master Gardeners.

Allen will discuss how and when plants are most susceptible to pests and disease and offer ideas for preventing and controlling plant and pest problems, including those posed by slugs, caterpillars and deer.

Allen has a bachelor's degree in botany from the University of Washington and is a Ph.D. candidate in botany from the University of British Columbia. She has extensive experience in botanical science, integrated pest management, agriculture and entomology in the U.S. Peace Corps as well as local practice as an active gardener and gardening consultant.
