The Department of Social and Health Services website now has online postings of enforcement actions, history and performance of state licensed long-term-care facilities.

All adult family home and boarding home enforcement letters issued as of April 15 are posted.

Adult family homes are at www.adsa.dshs.wa.gov/Lookup/AFHPubLookup.asp.

Boarding homes are at www.adsa.dshs.wa.gov/Lookup/BHPubLookup.asp.

These links are on the DSHS Aging and Disability Services Administration website, at the adult family home and boarding home locator pages. These assist in searching for licensed homes by geographic location and specialty features, such as whether they serve clients with dementia or challenging behavioral issues.

Enforcement letters relate to a home's current performance. They are the official communication between the department and a licensed provider about actions DSHS might take at licensed facilities, such as imposing or lifting a license suspension or revocation, stopping new placements at a home, putting certain conditions in place or levying a civil fine.

The letters are cumulative and posted chronologically under the respective home's license number. Not all homes will have enforcement letters; those that do display this link:

**** This facility has Enforcement Letters ****

Nursing home performance information is available from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which maintains a list of those that have a record of persistently poor survey performance and have been selected for more frequent inspections and monitoring.

Visit the CMS website at www.cms.hhs.gov/

CertificationandComplianc/12_NHs.asp.

Supported living programs offer instruction and support to persons who live in their own homes in the community. To search for a certified or contracted provider by geographic location, visit www.adsa.dshs.wa.gov/lookup/ResCare

PubLookup.asp. Once on the page for a specific provider, there is a link to request that provider's latest certification evaluation report.

Review of the online information is only one of the important steps in making an informed choice about a long-term care setting. The department has numerous resources to aid in understanding long-term care options and making related decisions.

Visit www.adsa.dshs.wa.gov/Library/publications/ and www.dshs.wa.gov/ddd/services.shtml for more information.
