A four-vehicle accident blocked Highway 101 west of Sequim for more than 30 minutes Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Washington State Patrol reports the accident was caused by “inattention” on the part of Nathan Fuentes, 21, of Sequim, who was driving west on Highway 101 when he slammed into a car that had stopped to make a left turn into a parking area near Barr Road. The collision drove the second car, driven by Michael LeFavor, 40, of Port Angeles, into the oncoming lane of traffic. LeFavor’s car struck the car driven by Michael Perry, 40, of Port Angeles, who was driving east on Highway 101. Perry was forced from the road where he slammed into the rear of a Habitat for Humanity moving van that was parked on the right shoulder of the road. Richard Storch, 64, Port Angeles, was in the van at the time. Storch was uninjured.

Captain Chris Turner of Clallam County Fire District 3 said three of those involved in the accident were injured. LeFavor and Perry received minor injuries and were transported to Olympic Medical Center. In addition to bruising, Fuentes suffered head lacerations. He was also transported to Olympic Medical Center.

The three automobiles were totaled. The van sustained and estimate $1,000 in damage.

Fuentes was cited by Washington State Patrol for inattention. State Patrol says no alcohol or drugs were involved.
