SHS seeks donations for Winter Wishes assembly

From candy to cross-country reunions, Sequim High School's annual Winter Wishes assembly aims to fulfill dreams of as many students as possible.

This year, event organizers are asking for some help.

Members of the community are invited to donate gifts to the school that are awarded to students at the assembly, set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, in the high school gymnasium.

Rachel Chumley, Winter Wishes project manager, said the organizers are primarily in need of cash donations, gift cards and gas cards.

"Any type of donation can be dropped off in the high school main office or we can arrange to have it picked up," Chumley said.

Each year the leadership class at the high school collects a special winter wish from every high school student, as well as a wish for their friend. The Winter Wishes committee tries to grant as many wishes as possible, particularly to help students who are less fortunate or need a boost during the holidays.

Some of the wishes this year include candy and iPods, gift certificates and plane tickets to send students to see their loved ones.
