From the Port Townsend-Jefferson County Leader

A husband and wife from La Center are dead after the woman apparently shot her husband and then herself around 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the WorldMark resort condominiums along Discovery Bay’s western shore in Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Sheriff Tony Hernandez identified the woman as Evelyn Carroll, 70, and the man as Leron Carroll, 74.

Hernandez said the couple had been guests at WorldMark since Dec. 13 and were due to check out Dec. 17.

“Dispatch received a call about 10:30 p.m. from a distraught female saying she had murdered her husband and that she was going to kill herself,” Hernandez said.

Eight minutes later deputies were on the scene and inside the room, Hernandez said. Deputies found the Carrolls alive, both suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper torsos. Hernandez said the Carrolls were conscious and talking. They also found a .38 caliber revolver in the room.

There are no other suspects in the case, said Jefferson County Chief Criminal Deputy Joe Nole.

Hernandez said emergency medical personnel arrived and began advanced life support while making arrangements for an airlift to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Weather conditions and other factors apparently thwarted the airlift and the two were placed in ground transport instead.

While en route to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, the Carrolls died from their injuries, Hernandez said.

Hernandez said the incident is being treated as a homicide and investigators continue to process the scene Thursday.

The next of kin have been notified.

The WorldMark Discovery Bay resort is about 15 miles from Port Townsend.
