Sgt. Grant Lightfoot will be leaving the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office to become a captain with the Anacortes Police Department.

“We will certainly miss Sgt. Lightfoot’s many talents and abilities. During his 14 years with our agency, he has served with distinction and excellence in several positions,” said Sheriff Bill Benedict.

Lightfoot began as a corrections officer for the sheriff’s office in January 1996, becoming a deputy in September that year. Lightfoot later served as a K-9 officer. In 2002, Lightfoot became a detective. He later returned to work as a road deputy until his promotion to patrol sergeant in February 2007.

Lightfoot wrote and managed several multi-agency training grants that included federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. The involved scenarios he created helped the agencies to become better coordinated and better prepared to respond to a variety of potential threats and emergencies. Lightfoot also worked on several important projects to improve communications and cooperation among public safety agencies on the Olympic Peninsula.

He will begin his position with the Anacortes Police Department on Feb. 1.
