Roger and Sharon Briggs snapped this photo of a small owl that recently made its way onto their porch. “It seemed happy to stay awhile observing us with what seemed a bit of curiosity for the eyes staring back at it on the other side of the sliding glass patio door,” the couple writes. They noted that a bird expert identified this as a northern saw-whet owl. According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, a northern saw-whet owl’s defense upon discovery is to sit still and not fly, leading people to perceive them as “tame.”
