About 60 people rallied for two hours at the FourC, Concerned Citizens of Clallam County, Tax Day rally on Friday, April 15, at the corner of Washington Street and Sequim Avenue. Attendees said they wanted to show concern for state and federal spending.

Richard Fleck of Sequim said he came out because he loves America but that the nation’s leadership is failing. He said he feels the nation has gone overboard with taxing people too.

“Yes, we need to pay for our freedom, but out income tax goes to foreign lands,” Fleck said.
His solution would be a 3 percent flat tax.

Bill Roden of Joyce said he was encouraged to see high school girls turn out to rally during their lunch break.

“The great thing was seeing the young people here among a sea of grey,” he said.

 

Attendees said most people who acknowledged them did so with positive responses.

 

Fleck said he feels people’s opinions on the street corner represent the largest stretch of people in America.

 

Attendees also gathered support for Initiative I-1122 that, among other things, requires state and local agencies to enforce federal immigration laws.

 

FourC hosts their next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St, Sequim.

 

Speakers include: Mike Doherty, Clallam County commissioner; Sheila Roark-Miller, director of Clallam County Department of Community Development; Scott Roberts, Freedom Foundation Property Rights director; and Kaj Ahlburg, president of the Port Angeles Business Association.

 

The topic includes a panel to discuss the perspectives and responsibilities of our elected officials on the topic of Private Property Rights, Growth Management Act and resulting legislation.
