After a five-day whirlwind tour of the Big Apple, the Sequim High School Select Choir is back in town.

 

While in New York, the local singers performed with 400 other students from across the US as members of the National Youth Choir. The national choir was conducted by Dr. Eph Ehly, accompanied by Mrs. Janet Whitcomb Pummill, and featured soloists Rebecca Pitcher and Stephen A. Futrell. The students spent ten hours in rehearsal over the three days prior to the Carnegie concert, which was held Sunday, April 3.
 

It wasn’t all work: the 29 students and 13 chaperones saw Jersey Boys on Broadway, which choir supporter Jim Stoffer said was a “big hit for the whole group.” They also took time to see Central Park, Times Square, Carlos Bakery (Cake Boss), the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Ground Zero. For additional cultural adventures, they rode a subway, visited Little Italy and Chinatown, plus the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Plaza.

The students returned to Sequim in the late evening, Monday Apr. 4.

Stoffer called it, an “amazing trip — a great opportunity for Sequim. We came back tired, but were ready to turn around and do it again.”
