You could be the next designer for the Sequim Irrigation Festival logo.

 

The 2012 theme is “117 & Still Growin’ Green” and the selected logo will be featured on collectible festival lapel pins, posters, float design, programs, advertising, at the royalty pageant, the festival events and more.

The contest runs now through Monday, Aug. 29, when design entries are due.

 

The theme follows this concept:

“When the settlers in the late 1800s created the irrigation system, it allowed the clear blue water cascading down the majestic mountains to flow across the Dungeness Valley, bringing abundance, fertile fields and lush green crops. Irrigation devices lined the landscape, rolling across the fields to distribute water to the parched land. Soon tractors could be seen working the fields and harvesting the crops. Hay bales dotted the valley. Crops thrived and farms prospered, making Sequim the agricultural marketplace of the peninsula. Agriculture continues to be a vital part of the local identity.”

 

Organizers suggest incorporating blue water and green fields, colorful crops, hay bales, farm implements, irrigation devices and farmers.

 

Prizes for the winning designer include a $100 gift card and tickets to major festival events.

 

The logo design contest entries are accepted from artists of any age who reside in Clallam or Jefferson counties. Full contest rules can be found at www.irrigationfestival.com or by e-mail at info@irrigationfestival.com.

Beginning in October, there also will be a separate contest among all Sequim School District area elementary school students in first through fifth grades to design the festival button.
