Clallam County Genealogical Society celebrates 30 years

The Clallam County Genealogical Society recently marked its 30th anniversary. The nonprofit organization, which began in May 1981 with 46 charter members, now numbers around 200. As part of the anniversary celebration, the society identified 22 of the original charter members still living in the area and recognized their contributions with the gift of lifetime membership. These charter members are Kathleen Barrett, Tina Boynton, Allen Brannin, Donna Caldwell, Ray Chapman, LaVeta Edmonson, Virginia Fitzpatrick, Darlene Ford, Mary French, Darcy Fitzpatrick Gort, Cynthia Karst, Patty Kiiski, Jane Manzer, Karen Mitchell, Peggy Brady Norris, Marie Paynter, Mary K. Phillips, Dorothy Rexrode, Jerry Reynolds, Zoel Thomson, Lillian Weeks and Karen Wise.

The society also installed new officers for the 2011-2012 operational year. They are Virginia Majewski (Sequim), president; Karen Mitchell (Port Angeles), vice president; Jana Hyatt (Sequim), secretary; Gail Porter (Port Angeles), treasurer; and Rex Springer (Port Angeles) and Susan Rose (Port Angeles), directors at large. Immediate past president is Roberta Griset (Sequim).

The Clallam County Genealogical Society is a community group dedicated to encouraging and supporting family history research and to developing both fellowship and improved research skills among local genealogists.

The society maintains and operates a research library at 931 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles, located behind the old Lincoln School.

The library is open to the public from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and is staffed by member volunteers who are available to help patrons with research.

The society provides expertise on local records of interest to family history researchers, presents educational meetings and sponsors classes and annual seminars on family history research.
