Clallam Dems to hold gay marriage vote

The Clallam County Democratic Party will vote on July 30 whether to support a resolution in favor of gay marriage.
The vote occurs at the party's quarterly general meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Port Angeles Library Carver Room, 2210 S. Peabody St. The event is open to the public.
The resolution, written by Sequim attorney George Frandsen, calls for the repeal of Washington's Defense of Marriage Act and the amendment of Washington state laws to recognize any marriage between two consenting adults.
The resolution will be introduced by Clallam County Democratic Party chairman Matthew Randazzo and voted upon officially by elected party leaders and precinct committee officers.
"Good people may disagree on how marriage should be defined for a variety of religious, cultural and personal reasons," Randazzo said, "and that's exactly why I believe it is inappropriate and intrusive for the Washington state government to be playing umpire."
Randazzo emphasized that this resolution is not targeted at any particular elected official, nor does it require or compel any Democrat to agree.
"There are going to be a number of passionate Democrats on both sides of this debate," he said. "I encourage local Democrats to attend the meeting on July 30 and have their say."
