Early summer donation woes for Sequim Community Aid led to an outpouring of support from Sequim individuals, churches and businesses. Due to limited funds and an increase in need, the community support program was close to suspending operations in June.

Donna Tidrick, president of the board, said they now have close to $28,000 between savings and checking since they reached out for help early in the summer.

One recent donation of $2,000 came from Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church’s annual yard sale on July 28.

Funds help individuals and families to prevent utilities from being disconnected, provide utility and housing/rental deposits, bus tickets for transportation to other agencies, job interviews and doctor appointments, and supply paper products, soaps, diapers and other nonperishable items.

Sequim Community Aid holds its annual meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Tidrick invites the public to attend and learn where funds are going in the community and to give thanks for donations when the group needed them. She said the fiscal year ended Aug. 31 and because of support, they ended on a good note.

Sequim Community Aid is available to people within the Sequim School District and offered on a one-time basis per year. The group operates with volunteer staff and no office space or government support.

Tax-deductible donations can be sent to Sequim Community Aid, P.O. Box 1591, Sequim, WA 98382.

For assistance, call the group’s pager at 681-3731.

Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave., and the Men’s OutReach Endeavor continue supporting Sequim Community Aid and other local charities as part of their mission to the community.

Through the annual Yuletide Bazaar, coming Nov. 19, the yard sale, budget allocations and special events, the congregation has provided more than $200,000 to local charities in 10 years. The Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic, started in the church parish, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, too.

Paul Wessel, yard sale coordinator, said church members are thankful they can share in making the community a better place to live and look forward to finding new ways serve in the future.

For more information on the church, call 681-0946.
