Sequim’s go-to music with lunch event returns for an 18th season of Music Live with Lunch this month.

Kicking off the concert series are some of the Port Angeles Symphony’s finest performers as a trio — flutist Sharon Snel, Anne Krabill on oboe and cellist Janette Chrysler.

The concert begins at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 20, with lunch to follow at 12:30 p.m.

Performers

Snel comes to Music Live with Lunch as principal flutist for the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra. She previously held the title with the Seattle Philharmonic and the Idaho State Symphony.

As a soloist, Snel played with the Port Angeles Symphony, Seattle Chamber Orchestra and other orchestras. She taught flute at Western Washington University and gives flute lessons at home and at Olympic Music School.

Krabill holds the title of principal oboe for the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra in Seattle. She’s a native Canadian and studied in London and taught at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Krabill also was the principal oboist with the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and performed frequently for the CBC orchestra and others as soloist and chamber musician.

Janette Chrysler plays cello for the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra. She is a founding member and principal cellist for the Sooke Philharmonic on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She taught cello privately and in the Texas public schools.

Sequim’s musical luncheon

Lou and Bill Yandell started Music Live with Lunch 18 years ago as a noontime concert outreach at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sequim.

Concerts by area musicians last for half an hour, followed by a hot lunch featuring homemade food, in many cases fresh from the garden. Vegetarian options are available.

Carolyn Braun, co-organizer of the event, said last year’s season grew in attendance and the event continues to be a success.

The series takes place the third Tuesday of each month from September-May, except for December.

Braun said the concert/luncheon series is the only one in the East Clallam/Jefferson counties area.

A portion of monies collected go to charitable organizations in the peninsula area and the performers donate their time and talents.

A season to come

Upcoming performances include organist Woody Bernas on Oct. 18. He’s played organ for churches in St. Paul, Minn., Wheeling, W.Va., Bremerton and Port Townsend.

In November the Port Angeles High School Chamber Orchestra plays a sampling of music.

Other performers in 2012 include Lylburn Layer, principal clarinet of the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra; Carl Kaiser, a lyric tenor who sang leading roles in German opera houses; and KatieRose Taylor, playing both Celtic and classical harp.

The cost of a season ticket for all eight concerts and lunches is $56 per person. Individual events cost $10. Tickets are available at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 Fifth Ave., Sequim. The church office is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, but call the church beforehand at 683-4862.

For more information, call the church or call Carolyn Braun at 452-0495.
