Clallam County PUD sent four crew members in three vehicles on Friday to assist Peninsula Light Company in Gig Harbor with power restoration.

About 3,000 customers are without power as of 11 a.m. Friday. Peninsula Light made the request as part of a mutual aid agreement.

“This is common in the industry when neighboring utilities are experiencing large outages,” PUD general manager Doug Nass, said.

“The storm this week caused few issues for Clallam PUD, but other areas of Western Washington were not so fortunate.”

Clallam PUD remains prepared with crews on hand to repair any outages or issues that might affect customers.

“Anytime we get a request for mutual aid assistance we first, and foremost, evaluate the PUD’s current and projected situation,” PUD operations superintendent Ken Haman said.

“Because we fared well this past week we are able to assist Peninsula Light and still remain prepared to address any issues we might experience.”

A mutual aid agreement is a written agreement between agencies in which they agree to assist each other on request by furnishing personnel and equipment if possible. Costs associated with assistance are reimbursed by the agency receiving the assistance.
