Two children placed in a home by Child Protective Services allegedly were abducted by their parents Friday afternoon.

Robin Sather, 30, and Paul Brawner, 27, both homeless and living out of their car, took their 4-year-old and 1-year-old children from the home during a dispute about the use of illegal drugs, said Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Ken Oien.

The children were staying in the Palo Alto area of Sequim after a court order from the Clallam County Superior Court placed them in the home due to a risk of imminent harm to the children if they remained in the custody of their parents, Oien said.

At 2:39 p.m. the couple took the children and drove away, fleeing west on U.S. Highway 101, he said.

Despite a poor vehicle description, their vehicle was recognized by Deputy Sheriff Brian Knutson who was able to stop on the car while it was still in the Carlsborg area, Oien said.

Sather and Brawner were arrested on suspicion of custodial interference in the first degree and taken into custody.

The children were taken into protective custody and suffered no injuries during the incident, Oien said.

Oien said the Sheriff’s Office appreciates the Sequim Police Department, the Washington State Patrol, Border Patrol, Child Protective Services and the PenCom dispatchers who assisted in this case.

Thanks to the efforts of all involved the children were located in a short amount of time and no harm came to any of the parties involved, he said.
