A fire consumed a garage on the 1000 block of Palo Verde Loop Sunday night.

Clallam County Fire District 3 received calls about smoke, reported from the Sequim Avenue area, the North Fifth Avenue area and from West Washington Street. Firefighters located the source of smoke on Palo Verde Loop, located off West Spruce Street, and found a fully involved garage fire, said Patrick Young, fire district public information officer.

One of the home’s two renters, a 27-year-old man, was at home and able to safely evacuate after neighbors made him aware of the fire, Young said. The second renter, a 29-year-old man, returned to find the fire department at his home.

Firefighters contained the flames to the garage area but minor smoke and water damage affected the home, Young said.

The garage, heavily damaged by the fire, contained a Harley Davidson motorcycle and various engine parts and tools. Investigators returned to the scene Monday morning to try to determine the cause of the fire, he said.

Young said both renters stated they would stay with family or friends in the Sequim area. Two pets, a ferret and a python, were evacuated from the home but a cat did not survive the fire, Young said.

An estimate loss was not immediately known but the homeowner stated that the home was insured, though the renters did not have renters insurance.

Fire District 3 had 10 pieces of equipment and 20 personnel on scene. Also on scene were Olympic Ambulance and Clallam County PUD. No injuries were reported.
