A home up Lost Mountain Road is a total loss after being consumed by a fire this afternoon.

Clallam County Fire District 3 responded to the report of a structure fire at 1793 Lost Mountain Road and found the home completely consumed by the fire, said Fire District Public Information Officer Patrick Young.

The vacation home was not occupied and no injuries were reported, he said. The caretaker of the home said the owner lives near Sacramento, Calif.

It is not known if the home was insured but the structure and all its contents are a total loss.

Young said it is too early to determine if the thunder and lightning storms hitting the area today played into the cause of the fire. Fire investigators will begin working to determine the cause of the fire after all the hot spots have cooled down, he said.

Water had to be shuttled in by tenders, trucks that carry water in a large tank, and the road was completely closed to traffic for nearly two hours to allow for emergency equipment to make the round trip with water, Young said. The road was later opened up to one lane to allow traffic to pass the scene.

Fire District #3 had approximately 15 firefighters on scene and 10 pieces of equipment. Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Olympic Ambulance and Clallam County PUD were all on scene providing assistance.
