Sequim remains safe from a looming zombie apocalypse thanks to a group of savvy teens.
The Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., hosted Tribal Edge, a primal arts training center, on July 26, to discuss and demonstrate emergency preparedness and survival skills with close to 30 teens.
Ben Sanford, owner and founder of Tribal Edge, and his staff shared the best techniques for using a bow drill to start a fire with friction before giving teens a chance.
“It’s tough but if I didn’t have anything to do all day (during an apocalypse) I’d learn,” said Chloe Robert, 16.
Sanford shared several safety and emergency tips including the three-threes rule: you typically can go without shelter in the wild for three hours, three days without water and three weeks without food.
When asked where they would go first during a zombie apocalypse, a few teens responded; a lesser-populated area, Safeway, inside a tank, and Protection Island.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Sequim Library and is part of the North Olympic Library System’s Own the Night annual summer reading program for teens and tweens. It ends on Thursday, Aug. 4, with “Creating Your own Skate Deck.” Space is limited. At each of the county’s libraries, young adults can submit written reviews of books they’ve read to become eligible to win prizes.
