Smith wins ‘Kiss the Pig’

Clallam County 4-H reported that generous donors gave $1,461.02 to the 4-H Kiss the Pig contest this year. Winning veterinarian Dr. Melissa Smith kissed the pig in the swine arena at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, the final day of the Clallam County Fair.
Donation in Smith’s named totaled $364.89 in her 11th year participating in the contest. Smith asked for a donation of $10 from the public to see third-placing veterinarian Dr. Sharon Jensen also kiss the pig, but Jensen offered to donate $40 to get out of it. Dr. Nicole Burton, second-placing veterinarian, also was present.
Donations are used for scholarships and other local 4-H activities.
