The Clallam Conservation District once again offers its popular free workshops on identifying and landscaping with native plants.

A one-hour workshop is available in conjunction with the Dungeness River Festival from 2-3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Railroad Bridge Park. No reservations are required for this workshop.

A longer (two miles, three hours) session is from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Dungeness Recreation Area.

Robin Hill Park is the site for the third workshop from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.

Participants will discover more than 25 native trees and shrubs, along with tips on developing a natural landscape.

For more information, or to reserve a spot in the workshops at Dungeness Recreation Area or Robin Hill Park, call the CCD at 452-1912, ext. 5, by Sept. 25.

Learn natural landscaping

The conservation district's natural landscaping course allows homeowners to develop low-maintenance landscapes that conserve water, provide wildlife habitat and control storm-water runoff, with step-by-step instruction on how to develop landscape designs suited to the unique ecological conditions of their properties.

The course includes three evening classes (6-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 4, 11 and 18) at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim; and three afternoon field trips: Friday, Oct. 5; Saturday, Oct. 13; and Saturday, Oct. 20.

A $20 registration fee covers the cost of materials. To register, call CCD at 452-1912, ext.5 by Sept. 27. For questions about course content, contact CCD or visit www.clallamcd.org/.
