From Nixle alert by Clallam County Sheriff's Dept.

The herd is between Palo Alto and Sequim Bay Lodge only 250 yds S. of Hwy 101.

An update on the location of the Sequim elk herd courtesy of Tim Cullinan, Wildlife Program Coordinator:

The elk crossed to the south side of U.S. 101 late Thursday morning. As of 5:00 AM today, they were in the dense woods between the highway and Marshall Road, about half a mile west of the Sequim Bay Lodge. They were only about 250 yards south of the highway. This is a slightly safer place than they were in on Thursday, but we’re still urging extreme caution for motorists on the stretch of highway 101 between Palo Alto Road and the Sequim Bay Lodge.

The attached screen shot of our GPS data shows the locations of a GPS-equipped elk between 11:00 PM last night and 5:00 this morning. The red circle in the top of the picture is the intersection of U.S. 101 and Palo Alto Road. The blue polygon in the lower right is the Sequim Bay Lodge at the intersection of U.S. 101 and West Sequim Bay Road. The pale line between them is highway 101. The straight, pale line running from the upper left corner through the GPS fixes is a single-pole PUD power line corridor (not a road). “Fix 10” is the last known location of the GPS-equipped elk, at 5:00 this morning. It is about 250 yards from the highway, and 0.55 mile from the Sequim Bay Lodge.
