Washington State University Extension offers a 16-week class — Road to Health: The National Diabetes Prevention Program — beginning at 6:30 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St. 

The program is based on the Diabetes Prevention Program research study led by the National Institutes of Health and supported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a 16-week class, followed by monthly meetings to complete the year, for people with pre-diabetes. It is effective in helping people lose 5-7 percent of their body weight and increase the physical activity needed to delay diabetes. Three- and 10-year follow-up studies have shown those who participated continue to delay the development of diabetes.

A fee of $65 covers cost of materials.
