Del’s Feed & Farm Supply has closed its doors in Sequim. The store, located next to Staples in the QFC Shopping Center, had been part of the Sequim business community since March 2008.

The company announced the decision with a brief press release, saying, “This decision was very difficult and was reached only after a great deal of consideration.” Company spokesman Rob Hoskins added, “Del’s has been a member in the Sequim retail community for more than four years and we want to thank our customers for their loyalty and business during that time period.”

Company officials declined to provide any further details.

Alan Doros, a former assistant manager at the store, said the closure was due in part to a $3,000 per month jump in the cost of the store’s lease. That brought the monthly lease payment to $13,000, he said. “That was pretty strong.”

“Business was good,” Doros said, “just not good enough.”

Doros said the five remaining employees were told Wednesday, Jan. 2, the store wouldn’t reopen. Inventory was moved to other stores in the chain.

Doros, who resigned his position in December 2012, said he had “no beef with the company. It was a good company to work for.”

He said the remaining employees were given six weeks’ severance pay.

Del’s Feed & Farm Supply, headquartered in Lakewood, has been operating in the Pacific Northwest for the past 35 years. Del’s is part of Tractor Supply Company, the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the United States.
