Regardless of who takes home the crown, Sequim wins with this year’s Clallam County Fair court.

For the first time since 2007, all of the candidates live in Sequim.

Candidates include Grace Koenigsaecker, 17; Naomi Gish, 16; Torrie McIntyre, 17; and Lily Paulsen, 17.
The girls compete for the title of fair queen at the Fair Royalty Tea and Coronation at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the Home Arts Building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St. in Port Angeles. In the past, the queen was crowned at the fair but organizers moved up the date this year.

Tickets are $6 at the door, available from any of the candidates and by calling Christine Paulsen (work) at 461-1866.

Each girl devotes about 18 months to the fair royalty with the queen receiving a $500 scholarship and princesses $400.

At the tea, the girls will give a speech about a moment that changed their lives and answer questions.

Led by volunteers Laurie Davies and Paulsen, the girls will participate in eight parades through the summer and work with the Sequim Noon Rotary Club to help with the Fourth of July festivities at Carrie Blake Park celebrating Sequim’s Centennial. They also participate in many events all four days of the Clallam County Fair from Aug. 15-18.

Each girl must be 16-18, hold a 2.6 grade-point average, receive letters of recommendation, live in the county and hold a desire to represent the county and the fair.

Read more about the girls in the March 13 edition of the Sequim Gazette.
