Learn how to maintain your independence by attending the second annual Staying Independent Fair from 10 a.m-2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center.
The event is co-sponsored by the PASC and the Olympic Area Agency on Aging’s Information and Assistance office.
Get a free checkup with screenings for balance, dental health and blood pressure, then learn more about alternative health options, including Feldenkrais therapy, acupuncture and herbal remedies, to name a few.
Experts will be on hand providing tips on finances, how to increase mobility in the home and describing the latest tools for coping with vision or hearing loss.
This year the sponsors have added several new features, including pets for adoption from the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society and even a pain management specialist from the makers of Oxycontin.
Other new resources include a housing specialist from the Housing Resource Center, a demonstration of mobility equipment by EWC Lift Systems, as well as fall-prevention assessments.
The staff of the O3A’s Information and Assistance office will be there to answer questions on Medicare, Medicaid, family caregiver support, long-term care and many other programs. All this, plus door prizes and energetic demonstrations of PASC program favorites like Zumba Gold, line dancing, belly dancing, corn hole and even rowing.
